Building Bold Futures: A New Home for Trinity Academy
At Trinity Academy of Portland, we are shaping young men and women through the discovery of truth, the practice of goodness, and the creation of beauty within a joyful Christian culture. Our mission is thriving. But our space is no longer sufficient to accommodate further growth.
Since 2011, Trinity has been rooted in the heart of North Portland, serving as the only non-alternative private high school in this part of the city. Yet our reach extends far beyond our neighborhood, serving families from across the metro area and into Southwest Washington. Families across the Portland area are drawn to Trinity because it’s built on the foundation of a joyful, discerning, and ecumenical Christian culture, one that prepares and inspires young men and women for purposeful, successful futures.
This fall, Trinity celebrated a new milestone with a record enrollment of 133 students. This is a 13.6% increase over last year, and nearly 30% growth in just five years. Each new student represents a family seeking something distinct — a place where learning is deep, relationships are real, and faith and intellect can grow together. While this growth is deeply encouraging, it also presents challenges. Our current 9,000 square foot leased building has a practical capacity of 125 students and has reached its limits. Every classroom, hallway, and common space is bursting at capacity. To continue to serve our students well, and to preserve the rich, relational culture that defines us, we need room to grow.
That’s why our board has committed to a bold step forward: a new campus on our property on North Delaware Avenue, just one mile west of where we are today. The planned two-story academic building will nearly double our capacity, providing space for up to 250 students. With continued successful fundraising, our goal is to break ground in the summer of 2026. Our new campus will also allow for a future gymnasium, ensuring space for years to come.
At the heart of this vision is not just a building, but the possibility this space holds. Trinity’s education is vital. Students read, discuss, and write in humanities seminars, solve problems collaboratively in math and science, and express beauty through art, drama and music. For the first time, our school will include dedicated spaces for science, art, and music, giving students the freedom to explore and create more fully than ever before. This kind of learning is real and human. In our cell-phone free environment, students focus deeply, wonder freely, and think clearly.
We are honored to partner with Soderstrom Architects and Todd Construction, trusted local teams with extensive experience in academic construction projects, as well as 3 Kings Environmental, who completed site abatement and demolition earlier this year. This project is more than a building. It’s about creating a place where truth, goodness, and beauty can flourish together. We’re not just building a school. We’re Building Bold Futures — for our students, for Portland, and for the generations to come.
