Athletics

Participating in sports is not only fun but can also help provide valuable lessons in honor, respect, teamwork, camaraderie, and sacrifice. At Trinity Academy, we encourage athletic participation.

A smaller school setting offers unique benefits to your child in athletics. Coaches can devote more personal attention to each athlete, everyone has a better chance to participate at the highest level, and the high-intensity culture of a major program is replaced by a sense of community and mutual support. Trinity Academy has a no-cut policy for all of its athletic programs. We encourage an approach to athletics that makes participation a part of a balanced life with time for homework, family time, and leisure.

Basketball 2025

Introducing Coach Kelsey Byrd:

Hi! My name is Kelsey Byrd, and I'm thrilled to join Trinity Academy as your new high school girls basketball coach!

I've lived in Portland for the last five years, but my coaching journey began on a small fishing island in Maine called Vinalhaven, where I did community health work and coached at the high school. After that experience, I had the honor of coaching women's basketball at Cal Poly SLO for three years. I was able to bring my experiences and learnings from playing basketball at Dartmouth College. Over the last four years here in Portland, I've been an assistant coach at Grant High School.

For my day job, I work at a nonprofit called The Contingent that runs a program called Every Child. I get to lead a team of engineers, product managers, marketers, customer service wizards, and innovators as we work to encourage community members to support children in foster care in their communities.

Outside of work, I enjoy going on hikes with my pup Charlie, camping, and getting way too competitive in pickleball!

I'm incredibly excited for the opportunity to be part of the Trinity Academy community and to get to know each of you! We're going to have a season filled with learning, growing, and a whole lot of fun playing the best game ever made, basketball!

Looking forward to meeting everyone soon!

Coach Kelsey

Game Schedule: 8 Games / Saturdays only, beginning January 4 and running through early March.  CYO will provide the game schedule mid-December.

A special congratulations goes to Milo Salomone, who finished as the 17th fastest runner in the state at the 1A/2A level and was officially recognized as 3rd Team All-State.

We are so proud of this team’s hard work, heart, and dedication—both on the course and in the classroom.

If you play a sport that we don’t offer you can play at your Local Public HS. For example, right now we have several soccer players that are playing HS soccer at Roosevelt because we don’t offer the sport. There is also the option of just playing a specific sport with a local club. So that is a great option as well.

Our Thunder Athletics program is relatively young, but we continue to grow! We are confident we have good programs and coaching in place that will be a good environment for all athletes, from beginners to the most experienced. It’s an exciting time and we would love to see you at one of our games and events in the future!

If you have any questions regarding our athletic program, please email our Athletic Director Nicola Ash.
